Our History

Nazaree Baptist Church No. 2 was organized under the leadership of Rev. E. Lewis in
1945, on the corner of Berkley Avenue and Main Street. It was later relocated to the
home of Sis. Curley Harper on First Avenue.

In 1946, Rev. Wash Howard Taylor was called to the pastorate of Nazaree No 2. The
new church building was completed in 1951 and Rev. Taylor served until 1977, when
Rev. Jospeh D. Phillips began to assist him in his duties.
In 1979, Rev. Taylor stepped down as pastor and Rev. Phillips assumed the Pastorate
of the church. Rev. Phillips left the National Baptist Convention in 1995 and became an
independent body affiliated with the Full Gospel Baptist Fellowship with Bishop Paul
Morton.
Due to an increase in members, in May of 1998, land was purchased, and construction
began for a larger sanctuary at our current location, 1695 W I-65 Service Road N,
Mobile, AL 36618.
After 40 years of faithful service, the Lord called Bishop Joseph D. Phillips home in June
of 2019.
Upon the death of Bishop Phillips, a Pastoral search committee was formed. After much
prayer and consideration, candidates for pastoral-ship were submitted and voted on.
In December 2019, Pastor Wesley D. Davis Jr. was voted in as the fourth pastor of
Nazaree Full Gospel church.
